TAIZA fashion house participated in the UNICEF auction ‘Save life - adopt a doll‘

An auction of dolls that were made for the UNICEF project called 'Save life - adopt a doll' was held in Rytířský sál in Žofín, Prague on 10th October 2003. The aim of the whole project is to collect money needed to vaccinate children mainly from developing countries.

The amount of six hundred Czech Crowns can cover one child living somewhere in the world against six deadly diseases: measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, tuberculosis and polio. 'Around the world five million children die every year of illnesses that could be prevented by timely vaccination. The project aims to save as many lives as possible,' Pavla Gomba, the director of the Czech UNICEF began the evening by saying. 'By choosing and buying a doll the donor will give the life to one child', she continued.

TAIZA fashion house donated a doll 'parented' by a fashion designer Katerina Baloun. The TAIZA doll was auctioned for 7,000 CZK.

Adolf Born, the painter, also donated one of his works, a painting of a small girl with a dog, which went to the new 'adoptive' parents for 8,000 CZK.

Among the other 'parents' who produced dolls were fashion designers: Liběna Rochová, Jaroslava Procházková, Monika Drápalová, Hana Havelková and Táňa Havlíčková.

The most generous adoptive 'parent' was the Minister of Health Marie Součková, who paid 25,000 CZK for dolls symbolising a couple without hesitation.

The auction of thirteen dolls and one picture raised 97,000 CZK in total. The money will be used to vaccinate approximately one hundred and fifty one children in selected countries in Africa, Asia and South America.

Dolls made by Czech children can be bought in UNICEF shops until the end of the year or on the UNICEF website:www.unicef.cz.
